'The Thirty-Nine Steps' by John Buchan (1915)

'The Thirty-Nine Steps' by John Buchan (1915)

For sale is a very recently rebound first edition of 'The Thirty-Nine Steps' by John Buchan. Published in 1915 by William Blackwood and Sons.

This copy has been bound in a modern style using bright blue Harmatan goatskin leather and Payhembury marbled endpapers. The width of the cover has been hand tooled, and airbrushed using white acrylic ink, creating a tidal/step shape to denote the 'thirty-nine steps' leading down to the water.

This book has been stripped and restrengthened using linen and a made hollow. The top edge of the book block has been hand gilded. The endpapers are separated by leather joints which add more strength to the book and also allow the front and back boards to open fully.

The book comes in a slipcase made from strong 3mm book board and lined with white suede. The ends are covered in bright blue cloth and the box is wrapped in handmade Cave paper.

Internally the book is in great condition, although showing a lot of browning to the page edges - this is very common with this particular edition due to the wartime paper used in it's production. No inscriptions.
