'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Ransome (1930)
Here is a recently re-bound copy of 'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Ransome. This is the first edition, published by Jonathan Cape in 1930.The book has been bound in teal, grained calf and foil blocked across the cover in white, creating a watery ripple effect. The original map endpapers have been preserved front and back and attached to new marbled ends, creating 'made' endpapers. All three page edges have been hand gilded. The title and author have been gold stamped to the spine. The solander box is covered in a light grey bookcloth and lined with white cloth and white suede. The two flags on the front are foil blocked leather onlays.Internally the book is in good condition, although it has obviously been well read over the last 90 years. There is some staining and thumbmarks throughout, a little heavier in a few places. There is a previous owner inscription on the half title page dated 'Xmas 1930'. A very rare and collectible book.
